How to Release your Inner Foodie with a Package of Instant Ramen
If you’ve never considered yourself a “foodie” or thought about making your own beautifully plated dishes, now is the time!
Excursions out to your favorite restaurants are few and far between right now, so cooking at home has become not only a necessity, but an enjoyable pastime for many people.
Whether you’re just getting started on cooking your favorite foods at home, or you’re a seasoned professional, high quality instant ramen noodles make the perfect canvas for your creativity.
Ever tried to make your own ramen at home? It’s a lot of work!
Great broth can take days to make from scratch and perfect noodles can be elusive. Don’t worry – we’ve done the work for you! Mike’s Mighty Good makes high-quality packaged ramen that you can get excited about. Our noodles are made from scratch and steamed, not fried.
This gives them the perfect chewy bite you’re used to from your favorite ramen bar. Our broths are made with simple ingredients (you can actually read everything on the ingredient list!), less salt than typical ramen, and they’re incredibly rich. No more bland noodles that fall apart, and no more pouring broth down the sink.
So, how do you turn a package of craft instant ramen into a creation like one you’d find out at a ramen bar? We’ll show you how!
Pick Your Flavor
Have a full recipe you want to replicate? Have no idea where to start? Either way, you’re going to need to pick a ramen flavor to work with!
Mike’s Mighty Good has 10 unique ramen flavors that make for endless ramen possibilities. We even have vegetarian and vegan options! Head to our shop to find the flavor you’re dying to make. (If you need a place to start – try our fan favorite savory miso or fried garlic chicken pillow packs or our new vegetarian miso cup!) Picking a flavor is the best way to start if you don’t know what you want to add to your ramen. Get inspiration from the ramen ingredients or check out the panel on the side of our packaging with topping recommendations for every flavor!
Find a Recipe, or Just Wing It!
The best part of dressing up your packaged ramen at home is adding all the toppings your heart desires. We have over 100 recipes (including vegan and vegetarian) for you to choose from! They’re all customizable for whatever you’re in the mood for, and you’re sure to find a bowl that sounds like your dream come true.
We even have some more summer-inspired recipes that use the flavor packet to make a sauce if you’re not in the mood for broth.
Here’s some of our favorite recipes:
Following a recipe not your vibe? We get it and totally support winging it and making up your own recipe as you go! Our favorite thing to do is go through our refrigerator, freezer, and pantry and grab everything that would be good on ramen.
The last time we did this, we ended up with two bowls – vegetarian vegetable with mushrooms, kimchi, green onion, micro-greens, and a soft-boiled egg and fried garlic chicken ramen with kimchi, rotisserie chicken, cabbage, mushrooms, and a soft boiled egg.
They were SO good.
The Perfect Ramen Egg
One of the signature ingredients you’ll find at any ramen bar is a delicious ramen egg with a perfect, jammy yolk.
To make a simple soft-boiled egg, bring a pot of water to a boil and (gently) drop in the egg. Set a timer for six and a half minutes and prep a bowl of icy cold water.
When the timer goes off, remove the egg from the boiling water with a slotted spoon and put it in the ice bath. Cool for a few minutes, and then peel.
We usually slice the egg at this point and add it to our bowl of ramen. BUT, if you want to amp-up the flavor and make it even more like a ramen restaurant, you can make a soy marinated egg.
After peeling the egg, add it to a bowl of equal parts soy sauce and mirin. Marinate for anywhere from 2 to 24 hours depending on your taste preference!
When you slice it open, you’ll have your jammy yolk and a flavorful egg white that will compliment just about any ramen bowl you create.
Don’t be afraid to get a little weird with it!
There are a lot of things that you wouldn’t typically find at a ramen bar that actually taste really amazing in ramen. In the mood for meatballs? We’ve made firecracker chicken meatballs and General Tso’s meatballs for our ramen! Feeling inspired by another favorite meal or cuisine?
We’ve been there! Our fish taco ramen and carbonara aren’t things you’d typically think of when making packaged ramen, but we blew our own minds when we tried these recipes. Get creative, try out new ideas, and find let your inner foodie run wild.
Maybe you didn’t consider yourself a foodie before quarantine but the time to learn is now! Let your creativity out and start making some ramen bowls. We’d love to see what you come up with (whether you follow one of our recipes or come up with your own)!
