Ramen Steak Skillet

There’s an old joke that only college kids thrive off of ramen because it’s easy to make, filling, and tasty. Not to mention, it lasts just about forever. That kind of ramen is not the same kind of ramen we’re about to introduce you to. Forget the ramen you thought you knew and say hello to delicious craft ramen, fit for your busy schedule.

It’s often assumed that there are only two types of ramen, the packaged kind that’s in a college student’s dorm room and the ramen you would get from a ramen bar. But what if you could get the taste of restaurant ramen at the price and accessibility of packaged ramen?

That’s where Mike’s Mighty Good comes in. Today, we’re going to transform ramen using our Mike’s Mighty Good Savory Beef Pillow Pack into a five-star meal. You won’t believe that this easy Ramen Steak Skillet started with just some savory beef ramen soup with organic noodles.

The Basics of Ramen

You could have 100 bowls of ramen, and each one would be different. So, what’s in a ramen dish? Every ramen dish has three main things: noodles, broth, and seasoning. Each ramen dish’s base starts with the broth, which can be made up of chicken broth, beef broth, vegetable broth, pork broth, or a combination. A good ramen broth typically uses a variety to create a richer, deeper flavor. Our Mike’s Mighty Good Savory Beef Pillow Pack uses beef, chicken fat, chicken broth, and a touch of cream. While traditional ramen dishes don’t call for cream, adding cream to the broth provides a balance that creates the perfect savory component.

Now, let’s talk about the noodles. You can’t have a good ramen dish without slurpable noodles. The best kind of ramen noodles are long, thick, and perfect for absorbing the broth’s rich flavor. Ramen shops often use udon, soba, or wheat noodles to accomplish this task. The key to cooking the perfect ramen noodles is to only cook them in boiling water for about 2 minutes, that’s all they need! You want your ramen noodles to be soft without being overcooked, rubbery, or god forbid, soggy. Trust us, there’s nothing worse than going digging into a steaming bowl of ramen, only to grab a spoonful of noodles that are falling apart. That’s why we use organic wheat noodles to absorb the flavor and still maintain the perfect consistency. You can thank good ol’ gluten for that one!

An essential part of every ramen dish and the severely underrated element is the seasoning. Without seasoning, you’re just drinking noodle water, and no one wants that. Ramen is typically salty, with hints of umami. Typical seasonings include ~light~ salt, soy sauce, miso paste, and garlic. The more advanced seasonings include seasoned oil, a touch of brown sugar, and sesame oil. Our Mike’s Mighty Good Savory Beef Pillow Pack uses sea salt, sesame oil, green onions, sunflower oil, organic sugar, and garlic. These seasonings balance our ramen, so it’s not too salty, not too rich, but just right.

So, How Does Ramen Become a Steak Skillet Dinner?

When you think of ramen, typically, steak skillet doesn’t come to mind. But the way we think of it, combine a warm bowl of ramen with a delicious steak skillet, and you have one AMAZING dinner.

We’re going to jump right into this recipe because the faster we get cooking, the faster you can enjoy this tasty dish. The first thing you need is our Mike’s Mighty Good Savory Beef Pillow Pack. Start by opening the Savory Beef Pillow Pack and setting the oil and seasoning to the side, we’ll come back to those later. Take the organic wheat noodles and cook them in a pot according to the package instructions. While the noodles are cooking, add one clove of chopped garlic and a dash of chili oil to a large skillet and cook on medium-high heat. Once the garlic is fragrant, add one cup of flank steak or skirt steak (your choice, both are excellent cuts), reduce the heat to medium-low, and sauté until slightly brown. Next, add a cup of steamed broccoli and cook for just a few minutes. Once the noodles are finished cooking, drain the water and add your cooked ramen noodles to the stir fry. Add the seasoning packet and another dash of chili oil to the pan, then toss or stir to combine the noodles and veggies. Grab a small bowl, top with a dash of black sesame seeds, and serve!
