Standard Types of Ramen

Although there are dozens of different types of ramen, three stand out as the most prominent. These options are the ones you will see most often on grocery store shelves or on the menu at a classic ramen bar.

There are three standard types of ramen broths you will see most often:

  • Shio
  • Miso
  • Tonkotsu

Each offers a different incredible taste.

Once you know your favorite type of ramen, you can add any ramen toppings you want to make your meal as healthy or rich as you want. From shio to miso, each type of ramen has something different to offer.

Shio

One of the most common types of ramen noodles is the shio variety. It’s one of the oldest types of ramen, literally translated to salt. Salt is the key ingredient of this meal, typically made with chicken or beef broth for a lighter flavor.

Shio ramen typically contains vegetables, seaweed, fish, meat, and salt. The broth is pale and salty, packed with enough flavor to bring the soup to life. Most shio ramen concoctions are made with straight noodles.

It’s easy to work with shio ramen, bringing it to life with whatever your favorite toppings are on your shelf. However, it’s best to steer clear of this option if you want to lower your sodium intake - it’s one of the highest available.

Miso

Next up is miso ramen, one of the most unique flavors available for ramen. The name comes from the extreme amount of miso added to the broth, providing a lovely umami tang on the tongue. It’s often mixed with a type of fat to thicken the broth and make it more rich than without.

The noodles in miso ramen tend to be thicker and chewier thanks to the consistency of the miso addition. It’s the youngest flavor in the ramen world, but it’s easily one of the most popular for its fantastic taste.

Many toppings go well with miso ramen. You can add butter, corn, spicy bean paste, sesame seeds, cabbage, chili, white pepper, and anything else with a nutty, rich miso taste.

Tonkotsu

If you want to dive right in with our organic ramen noodles, go with our tonkotsu. Our variety isn’t as creamy as those made in a classic restaurant, but you can add as many toppings as you want to create a memorable dish. We offer two versions of the pork tonkotsu: spicy and non-spicy.

You can purchase the classic pork tonkotsu in the ramen cup, rich and packed with tender, chewy noodles. It’s very versatile and excellent for all your favorite toppings.

We also have a spicy pork tonkotsu in a classic pillow pack form. It’s packed with the same taste as the classic variety but with a twist for the more adventurous eaters.

You can purchase the classic pork tonkotsu in the ramen cup, rich and packed with tender chewy noodles. It’s very versatile and excellent for all your favorite toppings.

Miso

We also have miso ramen selections. They are packed with the salty taste of soy sauce. Our noodles are decadent, satisfying and only take a few minutes to gather. Again, there are two different types of miso ramen available for you to purchase. Best part? Ours are both vegan! Most miso broths in restaurants have a pork base, so the fact that we make a ridiculously rich vegetarian ramen is next level.

The first is our classic ramen cup variety. This product is easy if you want a meal on the go. You can make everything in the cup and add toppings as you wish.

If you want to make a larger meal, go with our pillow pack for your miso ramen. It comes with tasty pieces of seaweed and offers a complex flavor profile. It’s good alone, but you can also top it with tofu, bean sprouts, and other delicious toppings.

Kimchi

Our Kimchi Ramen Pillow Pack comes with just the right amount of kick. It’s flavorful with shiitake mushrooms, green onions, avocado, kimchi, and even enoki mushrooms for a tasty flavor. It’s easy to experiment with the already complex taste of kimchi ramen.

Meat-Based

We also offer two meat-based ramen varieties, based on the classic taste of shio. We provide beef ramen and chicken ramen options, each with a different flavor profile for users. We have instant ramen varieties and classic noodle packs, each ready for you to experiment with in your home kitchen.

Take our meat and chicken ramen and pair it with whatever you want. Try chicken breast, Napa cabbage, green onions, and even fried garlic to name a few. Meat-based ramens are easy to work with, so even the pickiest eaters will enjoy our soup made with organic noodles and unique seasonings.
